Which Cleaners Are Safe for Marble? A Singapore Homeowner's Guide
Which everyday cleaners damage marble floors, bathroom walls and vanity tops, which are safe, and how to clean marble without dulling it.

Safe vs unsafe
| Use | Avoid |
|---|---|
| pH-neutral stone cleaner | Vinegar and lemon cleaners |
| Warm water and a microfibre mop | Limescale and rust removers |
| Mild, unscented dish soap (very diluted, then rinse) | Bleach and most bathroom sprays |
| Stone-safe disinfectant | Abrasive powders and scouring pads |
Why acids are the problem
Marble is calcium carbonate. Acids react with it and dissolve the polished surface, leaving dull etch marks. Many products sold for tiles and bathrooms are acidic, so check the label for 'safe for natural stone' or 'pH-neutral'.
Weekly routine
- Dust-mop or vacuum to remove grit.
- Mop with warm water and a pH-neutral stone cleaner.
- Wring the mop well; don't flood the floor.
- Dry wet areas, especially in the bathroom.
